What is Myofascial Trigger Point (MTP) Therapy?

Myofascial pain arises from the myofascial trigger points
in the muscle and fascia, the connective tissue holding our
bodies together.

Trigger points are tender spots in the muscle or soft
tissue and are localized areas of decreased circulation,
increased muscle contraction and increased nerve
sensitivity. This is a focus of pain that restricts range of
motion and can emerge away from the source, leading to
misdiagnosis.

Trigger points can cause muscle spasm, limited range of
movement, numbness, weakness and fatigue. They can develop as a result of motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, repetitive motion, falls, and work-related injuries. Stress aggravates the condition.

The Treatment

Myofascial trigger point therapy applies direct pressure to irritated trigger points along a muscle to inactivate the pain and restore function.

During treatment, aggravating factors are discussed, such as posture habits at work and during sleep, ergonomics, nutrition, hormones, and allergies.

After treatment, you will receive a program of passive stretch and exercise to retrain and recondition muscles to maintain pain relief. This makes for a longer lasting effect.

The following day or two, changes will be discussed and questions answered through a phone conversation.
